Orchestra Member Information
Congratulations! Welcome to the 2018-2019 season of the GWYOA .
In order to hold your seat in the orchestra, you must complete and submit the Musicians' Contract and pay your Tuition by August 1, 2018. Wait Listed musician’s will be offered your seat after the deadline.

Rehearsals are on Monday evenings. Rehearsals and the Winter Concert are held at the Academic Arts Building, Westchester Community College, near Parking lot #4. 75 Grasslands Rd, Valhalla, NY 10595 (see Contact for maps).
Inclement Weather Policy
GWYOA follows the Westchester Community College decisions for bad weather closures. Please check the WCC website (http://www.sunywcc.edu), call the WCC Information number at 914-606-6900, or contact your conductor or parent liaison when in doubt (click on your orchestra's name for contact info) . Should a rehearsal be cancelled for weather, we will notify you by email. Please make sure we always have your current email address.
Rehearsal Time: 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm, rehearsals are on the second floor stage of the auditorium. Please arrive by 6:45 pm for time to unpack and tune instruments.
What to bring to EVERY rehearsal: folding music stand, music folder and sharpened pencil. Cellos/bassists bring rock stops. You may bring a water bottle, however food and drink are otherwise not permitted in the rehearsal area. Members should put away chairs and music stands, and return music folders at the end of rehearsal.

What to bring to EVERY rehearsal: filled water bottle (no sugary drinks), music stand, sheet music, folder, sharpened pencil, and mute. Cellos and bassists bring rock stops.

Please take note of your scheduled “volunteer date” for chair set-up & break-down.
Winter Concert at WCC:
Sunday, December 9, 2018, at WCC Academic Arts Building. Ticket price will be a $15.00 suggested donation at the door (cash or check only). Student arrival time and more information to follow.
Spring Gala Concert:
Sunday, April 28, 2019, at David Geffen Hall, Lincoln Center, NYC. Tickets are available for purchase through Lincoln Center’s box office a few weeks before the concert. Seating is general admission, although you will be asked to choose seats when purchasing tickets. Student BUS transportation from WCC to Lincoln Center is provided - and is REQUIRED. Transportation home from Lincoln Center is NOT provided.
Westchester Youth Symphony Orchestra
- Lewis-Lionti Concerto Concert: Monday, January 14, 2019, WCC Academic Arts Building Stage during regular rehearsal time (7:00 - 9:00pm), no admission charge.
Westchester Junior Strings Orchestra
- Fall Concert: Thursday, December 6, 2018 – Time and location to be announced
- Spring Concert: Thursday, April 25, 2019 – Time and location to be announced
- Sectional Rehearsal: Sunday, November 18, 2018 (tentative date, info to follow)
Westchester Elementary Strings Orchestra
The multiple venue, daylong tours offer students the opportunity to polish their performances for upcoming concerts.
- Fall Tour: Thursday, December 6, 2018, (snow date December 7). Approximate times: 8:00 am to 3:30 pm. Bus to and from WCC is provided.
- Spring Tour: Friday, April 26, 2019. Approximate times: 8:00 am to 3:30 pm. Bus to and from WCC is provided.
- Sectional Rehearsals: Two Sunday Sectional Rehearsals—1 in Fall; 1 in Spring—date to be determined
Attendance & Behavior Policy (complete policy: Musician' Contract)
Attendance at all rehearsals and performances is mandatory. Inappropriate behavior, excessive tardiness and absences (excused or not) jeopardize the orchestras ability to perform and will necessitate a review by the conductor with the Board of Directors. More than two absences per semester will be considered excessive and may constitute grounds for dismissal. Cell phones and other electronics are to be silenced and out of sight during rehearsals.
Black or navy pants, black socks and shoes, white shirt with conservative, straight tie, and black jacket. No athletic shoes/sneakers. Shirt must be tucked inside pants.
All white blouse, black shoes, black skirt (knee length or longer).
Black suit (or black jacket/trousers), white button-down shirt, long tie (doesn't need to be black), black socks and shoes. No athletic shoes/sneakers.
Black dress, ankle or floor-length, or black blouse (3/4 sleeved or longer) and ankle- or floor-length skirt or concert trousers, black tights, black closed-toe shoes. Please note that leggings are not a substitute for black trousers. No short sleeves, please.
Black suit (black jacket/trousers), white button-down shirt, long tie (doesn't need to be black), black socks and shoes. No athletic shoes/sneakers.
Full length black dress, or black blouse with black skirt or concert trousers, black tights, black closed-toe shoes. No short sleeves, top must be ¾ sleeve or longer. Dress/skirt/trouser must be ankle or floor length. Please note that leggings are not a substitute for black trousers.
